What should the employer’s letter say for a spouse visa?
Quick answer
It confirms the job, the gross annual salary, how long the UK partner has worked there, how long they’ve been paid that salary, and whether the contract is permanent or fixed term, full or part time.
What the rules say
Evidence for a job
For a job held six months or more: six months of payslips, bank statements for the same months showing the pay going in, and a letter from the employer confirming the job, the salary, how long they have worked there, how long they have been paid that salary and the type of contract (permanent or fixed term, full or part time). A P60 can be asked for. For a job held under six months, the new job must pay enough on its own and the total earned over the last twelve months must also reach the threshold, with payslips and statements covering those twelve months.

The 28-day rule
The most recent payslip and bank statement must be dated no earlier than 28 days before the application is made. Evidence must cover the right period up to that point: six months for a job held six months or more, twelve months for a job under six months old, and for self-employment the last full financial year.
